Catalog Description
A profusion of bright red berries brighten the winter landscape on the oval-rounded form, providing food for birds. A male pollenizer, such as Jim Dandy Winterberry, required for berry set. Rich green foliage is larger and glossier than most. Extremely hardy. Deciduous. Full to partial sun. Slow-growing to 6 to 10 feet tall and wide. Cutting grown.
Design Ideas

Here is a native deciduous holly that leaves nothing but the berries in the winter - but only if you plant the pollinator too. Plant these as specimens in the landscape where the bright red won`t have competition. Great at corners of fences, around woodland gardens or in the all-native landscape with birds in mind.
Companion Plants

Red Sprite is a gorgeous winter show and even offers fall color.
To even out your seasonal shrub border, combine it with deciduous flowering shrubs and trees that offer spring and summer variety.
Try very hardy white Eastern Snowball, (Viburnum opulus `Sterile`) and fragrant Sensation Lilac, (Syringa vulgaris `Sensation`).
For interesting summer foliage accent a Winterberry cluster with flowering Golden Chain Tree, (Laburnum x Watereri `Vossii`) and beneath that Silver Blue Hydrangea, (Hydrangea macrophylla `Mariesii Variegata`).
