Catalog Description
A lovely fern having dark green fronds with a fine lacy texture. A dark brown trunk holds a spreading crown of feathery, arching fronds 5 to 7 feet long. Beautiful accent for a tropical effect. Partial to full shade. Slow-growing to 15 feet high, its crown to 12 feet across. Spore grown. Non-hardy.
Design Ideas

Perfect Fern for bringing down high walls in enclosed gardens, atriums and walled courtyards. Place against a vertical surface to encourage bending or let it stand alone as a centerpiece. Most attractive when grouped into a Fern dell, which is refreshing in hot climates. Keep away from hot or persistent winds.
Companion Plants

This is a surprisingly cold-tolerant Tree Fern.
Combines very well with the lacy green leaves and red berries of Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica), Everblooming Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides `Veitchii`), with its profusion of fragrant double blooms, and Japanese Aralia (Fatsia japonica), an evergreen shrub with big, glossy fan-like leaves.
Also blends nicely with the yellow Iris-like flowers and foliage of Fortnight Lily (Moraea bicolor).
For a smaller accent try Elijah Blue Fescue (Festuca cinerea `Elijah Blue`), an ornamental grass with icy blue blades.
