This semi-evergreen perennial forms a mat which grows to six inches tall, with dark green, elliptical leaves. It features upright, dense, three inch spikes of small pale-pink flowers that deepen to crimson with age. The leaves change to a bronze color in the autumn. The leaves are four inches long. This low-growing plant makes a good ground cover for sunny perennial borders or around a water garden. It grows well in medium moist soil.
