This evergreen conifer starts as a conical tree and grows to become a large tree, developing a broad crown with horizontal branching. It has short needles that are dark green and grow in whorls. Cones grow to be 3 - 4 inches long and ovoid.
This tree is one of Denver Botanic Gardens' State Champion trees and grows well in a sunny spot.
