This is a low-growing perennial with pink flowers in late spring to early summer and linear, evergreen mounding foliage. Many cultivars of this species are commercially available. Some of the more popular cultivars include 'Bath's Pink' and 'Feuerhexe'.  'Bath's Pink' has fragrant medium pink flowers and silvery green foliage that grows four to six inches in height. 'Feuerhexe' (Firewitch)  has shocking magenta-pink blossoms compared to the species. The flowers are on seven to eight inch stems over foliage that grows to only six inches in height.  <p>

This dianthus prefers slightly alkaline soils and tolerates heat and humidity better than most other species of dianthus. Remove spent flowers to encourage reblooming. This species should not be planted in areas that remain wet in the winter; consider a sloped area with good drainage.
