Special characteristics:
This unusual-looking plant has green leaves with white variegation and a large calla-like purple flower. The purple spathe encloses the almost black spadix which houses the actual flowers.

This plant is pollinated by flies which are attracted to it by a carrion-like odor that lasts for about a day. For this reason, it is wise to plant this otherwise beautiful plant a few feet from main pathways. Attractive red fruit appear on the spadix later in the summer.
