Special characteristics:

This delicate, fine-textured ornamental grass grows in a dense fountainlike clump with slender, wiry culms 1-2 feet tall. The leaves are 6-14 inches long with fine thread-like green foliage. It flowers as a silvery soft nodding panicle that stands 6-12 inches above the leaves. Each flower within the panicle is adorned with a slender bristlelike awn, 2-3 inches long.

This is a cool-season grower that stays evergreen in cooler climates and is drought tolerant once established. This grass tends to self-seed and can be divided in late spring for transplanting. This plant also is good for erosion control on sunny slopes. It makes a dramatic statement when planted linearly or can soften areas when planted with other plant materials.
