Paxistima canbyi is a prostrate, broadleaf evergreen shrub with lustrous dark green leaves that deepen with purple tints in the winter. The flowers bloom in May but are not particularly showy.

This is a useful shrub for creating an evergreen groundcover, especially in a rock garden or among other evergreen plants. Avoid high fertilizer use. This plant tolerates high pH soils and is low maintenance once established.
