This cattail is a native of marshes and wetlands that features slender green leaves and brown cylindrical flowers in mid to late summer. The leaves turn yellow in the fall.
This plant can be grown in ponds and marshes. It is quite vigorous and may take over unless constrained by growing in pots. It spreads by rhizomatous roots. The cattail flowers are decorative in fresh or dried floral arrangments.
