A warm season grass, this species is noted for its bottle-brush shaped flower spikes that bloom from June through October in a coppery-pink color. It is a smaller-sized ornamental grass that can be easily utilized in the perennial border or foundation planting in small groups or as an accent. It also works well in containers.
This grass can be propagated by divisions, but this should be done in early spring just as new growth is appearing. Cut back in late winter or early spring to stretch the ornamental qualities of this grass long past frost.
